Gotcha. I’ve been ok with the Ecotech interface and configuration. Pretty easy to tweak. Good to know that there is another option though if I need it so thanks for that. One thing on my todo list is to downgrade my Vectra M2 return pump and move it from that crappy Mobius app to Reeflink.
Thanks Danny. I took a look at what you did there and the RF swap seems easy enough. What do you see as the advantages of implementing this? The WE would cost me around $400 CDN.
That is good advice. I’ve been working on beefing up my safeguards over the past year. UPS on my tank with my MP10, MP40 and C4 on it. Another UPS on my tank router and Ecotech Reeflink. These protect against any power blips that might cause any of these devices to go through lengthy reboots...
Ok. I think I understand. For whatever reason, his XP8 did not re-establish communications with his wifi master over the command bus, This caused the XP8 related tiles to turn red since there was no way to verify their current status. It’s possible that the outlets on the XP8 continued to...
But if he would have switched to Bluetooth mode would it have resolved the inaccessibility issue? Sorry for all the questions but I am really unclear as to what to expect from the XP8.
Right. But I think Danny’s didn’t turn red at all.
lol…. Me too. A Wyze pan cam. Figured it could help troubleshooting one day. “No… to the left, to the left, yes, that one, unplug it!”
Agreed, it’s not that bad/disastrous. I am just trying to come up with ways to make it more foolproof. I plan to do some travelling. I’d like to make it as easy as possible on those who so kindly volunteer to feed and watch over the tank and admittedly, easier on myself so I am not worrying...
Thanks so much for the test Danny. So, what BAMatter experienced was abnormal? His tiles all turned red and there was nothing he could do except reboot his XP8?
I wanted to do something like that and create added heater redundancy by connecting the Helio controller to the XP8 if it works the way I was thinking and hoping it might. I thought the XP8 was supposed to keep on working as per programming even if it lost wifi connection? Not sure anymore.
So Danny. Have you tested what happens during an internet outage? If I had a simple setup with a C4 and an XP8, then lost wifi, what will happen? Will inputs/outputs still follow the programming even though the tiles are all red and unresponsive as BAMatter experienced?
In both cases, the wifi strip lost connection to the internet. Nothing else in my entire house had any issues at these times and I have a fair number of devices of all types. The wifi strip failed to automatically reconnect and as such the heater remained in the state it was previously in...
Thanks very much. That’s exactly what I was wondering. I’ve gotten into 2 bad situations with the wifi strip in the past which prompted me to remove heater control from the Hydros entirely. I’ve been on the fence over investing another $500 CDN on the XP8 if I can’t be sure it really solves the...
Thanks for the reply. That’s good info. How were you able to determine that the XP8 outlets were still operating correctly? Was there some way to see that the outlets were still switching on/off and following the programming?
