how do I make this happen? There was an out of the box solution alluded to on a cvtv episode but doesnt look like it made it to market…I’m not savy with this kind of diy.

I am not much of a DIY type, but I wonder if you purchase a 12v LED strip like this one:

and a 2 wire barrel connector such as this:

and a Hydros Drive Extension cable:

That you could remove the extension cable end and connect the barrel connector so you can plug it into the light fixture lead.

Lastly, get some heat shrink tubing to make the barrel connector leads water resistant:

Involves a bit of simple DIY, but nothing complicated.

Other solutions, like motion sensing LED strip lights from IKEA or elsewhere, can use their own 12v/24v driver and plug into the wall instead of using up one of your Hydros ports/outlets. Food for thought.

As long as you do not overload the drive port. Max is 12 watts but I would keep it lower if all possible since the supply is shared with both ports. The total max current for both is 1.5 amps but each port max is 1 amp if you have the X4 or X2. It is higher on the XD and Kraken. Those are 1.5 amps per port or a total of 3 amps for all.

i know, but i bought into hydros for declutter and automation, and i have an unused drive port so i wanted to use it.

What are you using the other drive port for? You can connect the 12v lighting that is in a link to the drive port but you will need to get a drive port extension cable and cut it and use the two wire to power the 12v LED's. Just make sure you get the polarity right when connecting it up. I would stay below 8 watts if you can. The port is rated for 12 but that drops if the other port also has a high wattage device and they are both on at the same time.

the other drive port has hydros micro pump for ato.

What happens when I get this wrong and I overshoot the current, watts whatever? Is the hydros device fried?

what happened to this light????

It will shutdown both but a power down and power back up will clear it if the overload has been removed. I don't think the Hydros ATO pump is a high current user so you should be good if you stay below 10 watts.

Hard to say, but I would buy it. The video was from Jun 17, 2021, over 1.5 years ago. I have heard it can take two years to bring a product to market. Maybe CV is still working on it.
