Ok I’m stumped my kid just got an hydros x4 pro pack. He set it up like they say online. When he went to make it a collective it did it but when he selects the collective you can see the XP8 and the X4 go back and forth from not responding. Then he gets collective broken. They work fine when it’s not in collective but when you do a collective it’s the back and forth of from them working and not responding. Both command bus terminators are connected and he said he connected them while it was powered off. Can it be a faulty terminator or something else?

Is the command buss cable connected? select one of the controllers and create the collective. It should only have that one controller in it at that point. Is it stable at that point?

Yes the cable is connected. When I start the collective with one device it’s stable. When I goto add the other device to the collective it becomes a broken collective and I can see both devices in the collective and you can see them switch back and forth from connected to not connected in the collective status screen. Also on the empty command bus terminals each has the terminator connected to the open command bus ports.

The collective should work with just one terminator with just two members. You can try it with only one terminator. Try each one at a time to see if it is one of them causing the communication issue. I have had mine do this but it ended up being a buss cable I made to interface to CAT5 to get it to the tank from my garage. So it can be either commad cable, terminator or one of the controllers causing the communication issue. Make sure all the pins on the connector look good on the controllers.

Tried the terminator moving around and using only one. It maybe the command cable then since the terminator troubleshooting didn’t workout. Also I just noticed on the status screen the XP8 reads -17 mA for the bus current and the X4 reads 48mA

That looks good. The XP8 will show a negative number since it is also giving more current to the buss than it uses. The display is the amount of current supplied to the buss minus what it uses, but displayed as a negative number. Below is a screenshot of my tank page with the XP8 and three other controllers. I have 5 others in the collective that are in the garage with my RODI unit and three storage tanks. At this point you might want to submit a support ticket here Submit ticket .

Thanks I submitted a ticket through support. Was kind of hoping to solve this issue before Monday when support opens back up. Hoping it’s so Eth basic which im doubting since both units seem to work fine except when they both are in a collective is when I’m having the issue. On one of the YouTube videos Carlos talks about collective broken and the switching back and forth between the modules. So maybe it is a bad terminator

One thing it may be I forgot about is firmware. Does both controllers have the same firmware versions on them?

There is probably only a difference that pertains to the XP8 in 198. If one would have been several versions difference it may have caused an issue.
