I would set it 3 degrees higher than your IM Helio controller setting. Just remember the the turn on and turn off set points have to be higher than where your IM Helio controller is set.

Did you get it setup ok?

If you have the XP8, you could do the opposite. Set your controller to be 3 degrees higher than Hydros and then let Hydros turn the controller/heaters on and off. This will allow you to monitor the power output from the heaters and to know when one of them has failed. If you did it the other way around, you could not configure Hydros to monitor the power since that power usage will range from 0 to your heaters' normal total wattage.

i believe so. this is what i have my hydros set to. i have two 300w heaters plugged into a Helios controller is is set to 79 degrees.

The way you have it set the Hydros is turning the Helios on and off to control it. Some controllers do not take to being turned on and off so much. Not sure about the Helois but with controllers like that it is best to use them as primary control of the temp and use the Hydros as a backup to it. If for some reason the temp gets too high. To do that the Helios at 78 degrees and set the Hydros 3 degrees higher than it on both settings.

so set helios at 78, then the hydros turn on at 81 and the hydros off at 81 as well? wouldnt that possibly be too hot temp?

I like to have at least 3 degrees but you could go 2 and try that. I use 76 degrees for my heaters and 78 degrees for my cooling fans though. My tank has been up as high as 84 degrees when the AC unit quit for a few days. The lowest it has ever been is just below 70 degrees when we had rolling blackouts in the winter over a year ago. The main thing is not going in either direction too fast. 600 watts of heating is quite a bit. I only use 2 50 watt heaters in my 42 gallon tank, but my house normally is between 70 and 77 degrees unless my AC has an issue.
