I'm a freshwater aquascaper/aquarist looking at Hydros controllers as having real utility in helping manage my aquariums. I am looking at starting with the Launch, as it will cover basically all of my needs to start (110v power for filter, heater, light. 12v to power CO2 solenoid, backlight, ATO pump and a dosing pump. Sensors for temp, leak detection and water level, and a pH probe).

However, I was wondering if the salinity probe can be reconfigured as a second pH probe? Since I'm a freshwater guy, I don't really have a need to test salinity. Does anyone have an answer for this? A search of the forum didn't come up with anything and the Google results seem inconclusive.

The salinity port is just salinity only. There is different electronics circuits in the salinity port from a pH/ORP port.

Good to know. It's definitely not a deal breaker, the rest of the Launch's functionality makes up for it, but yeah probably not a probe I have a use for.

There is the X4 XP8 Pro Pack. That does not have the salinity port and also has 4 0-10v outputs along with the 4 0-10v inputs. The XP8 has 8 AC outlet and the ones on the XP8 have power monitoring which the Launch does not. The X4 only has 2 drive ports though, but it does have 2 pH/ORP probe ports.

I will likely add an X4 as I add an additional tank, as it fits the needed number of additional sense, drive and probe ports. Right now I don't have a use for 0-10v outputs/inputs but I might come up with some at some point. I have use for the USB ports on the wifi power strip, so at this point Launch plus that makes more sense for the me than the XP8.
