I'm confused about the danger of 2 power supplies in a collective. In the collective instructions, it says "TIP: The power supply on the XP8 is isolated from the bus ports, and so are the power supplies on the WaveEngine. Therefore, they can safely connect with data/power command bus cables! There is no need for a data-only” command bus cable."
But the examples given using an XP8 all use data only cables.
I have a wave engine with power supply, a normal bus cable to my X4. I'm about to add an XP8. Can I safely add it to the collective with its own power supply, with a standard bus cable?

Yes as long as one of the power packs that normally come with the X4 is not connected. The power packs are the only ones at this time that cannot be connected without power separation ( data only cable ). Also long length cables over 15ft should be data only.

Thanks Danny. So if I don't use the x4 power supply and use the xp8 and wave engine power supplies (but not the x4 one), I don't need a data cable, right? Given "TIP: The power supply on the XP8 is isolated from the bus ports, and so are the power supplies on the WaveEngine. Therefore, they can safely connect with data/power command bus cables! There is no need for a data-only” command bus cable." that seems possible. Right?

That is correct. The XP8 and WaveEngine can be connected to each other with the standard command buss cable. I would put the X4 between them though and use standard command buss cables. Don't forget the terminators if you don't already have them. You will need at least one. Two of them is the optimum though.
