Can Hydros control Kessil a500x yet?

Is there support and a cable for this light yet?

The A500X doesn't use a standard 0-10v. So the only alternative with be IoT integration which would seem possible since obviously available elsewhere. Just not done or not requested (or both) yet for Hydros. Tagging @Carlos to move this to HYDROS New Features/Equipment Requests and spin it into a feature request. Would also encourage you to reach out to Kessil directly as CoralVue often says other manufacturers need to see the demand from end users directly to incentivize them to work with Hydros on integration.

Thank you, I'll send Kessil an e-mail about it. I hope they will take support seriously.

BUMP. I just emailed Kessil about this too. I have 3 Kessil A500X in a cart waiting to pull the trigger. Without the 0-10V port, everything becomes so proprietary it seems unlikely they will actually help make this happen from a hard-wired method. But I think they do integrate with Apex via Wi-Fi dongle, so that should be an indicator that it is possible. I assume there is just some code standards that need to be released to CoralVue so they can do the dev on it in their app and allow attaching as a Wi-Fi device. Is this industry really still this in-cooperative with each other? I mean don’t we all come from the reefing hobby where everything is literally about helping each other out?

It has been a few months since this post was active. Any new info on this from anyone else?

I haven't heard anything else. Their response to me did not inspire confidence. It was just basically "thanks for the suggestion".

Similar, but I did get a quick same day response from Kessil today, saying that they too (the person responding) would like to see same integration and that they would forward my request to the right department. I hate to buy an Apex just for my lights and limit Hydros to only part of the solution. And I really think Kessil A500x is the light for my setup…

So I got to thinking more…what if we did this?

(thinking out loud)

Hydros 0-10V Output -> Analog to DMX Converter -> Kessil DMX to KLink Converter -> A500X Light Chain

This would be wired not wifi dongle connection. It should be intensity and color adjustment (if you used multiple Hydros 0-10V outputs, one per DMX channel (intensity, red, green, voilet, and color temp adjustment 10-20K). This would require 5 hydros outputs to do all that, or could be as simple as just intensity control.

DMX Converter ~$250 - ZDM 6

Kessil Converter ~$? - Kessil Signal Converter | Kessil LED

I bet you would also need a waterproof enclosure for this stuff too.

I can’t find the Kessil converter for sale anywhere yet, so no idea the cost. (Maybe someone else can find it?)

This is a possible solution, but probably not cheap and might be quirky depending on how these items work together.

Perhaps if Kessil and CoralVue get more requests, some traction will occur and they can make this more simple.

Looks like this device would do 0-10V directly to Klink.

But my guess this is a commercial only special order device.

Got a reply from Kessil, but they didn’t read my request clearly and assumed I was wanting to go from 0-10V to Klink somehow with their device, despite me asking for dmx to klink, which the device supposedly does. Still waiting on price and where to obtain. Probably gonna be a fail, but still have a little hope…. Will update when I hear back again…

So I am not getting a good vibe from Kessil support. I feel like the responses are all like 3-5 second efforts without any real explanation or understanding, like maybe they are from summer interns or something like that. According to Morgan from Kessil support, they do not sell the signal converter KSUSCB1, that they spec out and advertise on their website. So I assume as guessed above, it is only for large professional installs like public aquariums and such. Because of this, I am going to spend some time reconsidering my light options and control options. I probably would have been willing to drop a fair price for the signal converter if it was available. I would probably be in the $5k range on lighting investment anyway. Oh well, back to the drawing board….
