If the minnow has the power supply that connects directly to a command bus do not use it. The X10 can power the Minnow without it. The power supplies that connect directly to a command bus port cannot be used with another source of power connected to the command bus which the X10 would be. I have a Minnow connected to a collective and I do not use that supply and have no issues with it running.

Can I connect the X10 to a xp8 then to the minnow? I read the xp8 has a way to isolate the power from the power and data cable

Just don't connect any of the power supplies that connect directly to a command bus port. Those cannot be isolated. The X10 has isolation built into the controller between the command bus and it's power port. All controllers with a separate power port or an AC plug are isolated and can be used with each other as long as one of the power supplies that connect to a command bus port is not connected but they do not need to be used with another source of power like the X10 or XP8 anyway. Any controller with a separate power port or a AC plug needs to be powered at that port or the AC plug powered for the outputs on the controller to work. As an example the X10's dosing pumps and drive ports will not work unless there is power applied to the separate power port since power on the bus will not provide power to them, but power applied the the X10's power port will provide power to the command bus.
