I'm in the process of designing my collective for my Waterbox 230.6 I have coming in a few months and could use some input. I think I have it figured out, but would like someone to confirm. My hardware list so far is:
  • Three (3) Control XP8
  • One (1) Control X10
  • Two (2) Sole
  • WaveEngine (assuming I can find wave makers that fit my glass and are compatible)
I plan to have two (2) Control XP8's plugged into the wall, the Control X10, and the WaveEngine all directly adjacent to the stand. The intention is to run a Data-only cable from one XP8 to the other XP8, a Data+Power cable from one XP8 to the X10, and a Data+Power from the X10 to the WaveEngine.

Now here is where I'm not entirely sure if it'll work - I want to have an AWC setup in my utility room about 25' from the tank. The utility room will have one (1) Control XP8 and the two (2) Sole units. I hope to run a long Data-only cable from one XP8 at the tank to the XP8 in the utility room, then a Data+Power cable from the XP8 in the utility room to one Sole, and then a final Data+Power cable from one Sole to the other Sole.

Sorry if this isn't the easiest to follow (I might put a visual diagram together) as I'm thinking of it on the fly, but high-level would this work to be one functioning collective?

Not sure why you are using data only cables. The only reason would be if the cable is over 14ft. Also the Wave Engine and X10 have their own power supplies and those are needed since the ouputs on either will not run from command bus power.

As stated in the original post, the utility room and tank are ~25’ away, and I want the XP8 in there to be part of the collective. Hence the need for the data only cable.

Ok, that will work then. Just make sure an plan on plugging in the Wave Engine and X10 power supplies also.

Since both require their own power supplies, should I not spend the money on Data+Power cables and get Data-only? I plan to buy a few extras of each just to have around in case, but want to make sure. Is there a hard and fast rule about what modules can run via Data+Power to the command port?

Data only cables are only in longer lengths unless you special order them. There is no issue using the standard data and power cable between the XP8, X10 and Wave engines. The only supply there is an issue with other sources of power is the supplies that connect directly to a command bus port. Those usually come with starter kits and controllers like the Minnow but the can be powered from an X10, XP8 or Wave Engine.
