Flow Meter question

Is there a right and wrong way to install a flow meter? As in the direction of the flow. Im getting ridiculously low readings. Ive even changed from a 1056GPH pump to a 2700GPH pump. Went from about 30gph to 75gph on the flow meter. When I close the gate valve and run 100% through the UV (the flow meter is to measure the UV line), then I can get up to around 100gph (on the 2700gph pump). I know that head pressure and elbows restrict the flow, but that much? My sump/pump is directly under the tank. The return piping is 3/4". Im wondering if the flow needs to go through the meter in a specific direction. There aren't any arrows or instructions saying it has to go in a certain direction.

Found it, and I do have it going the right way - right to left.
