I have completed a mod to get two Sicce SDC 7.0 return pumps powere by Kraken. I was successful doing one and no issues. No high pc board temp. I ran it for several hours, no problems, then hooked up a second pump to the second mod wire that I made the exact same way. Within 10 minutes of the second pump being hooked up to Kraken, I noticed the PC Board Temp rising, eventually turing orange/yellow (have not seen red....yet!)

Is this higher than normal PC Board Temp a problem?

You can see more info about the mod I made here at this thread: Sicce SDC 7.0 Pump connection to Kraken Force Port 24v

Thank you!

Mine is not pulling the max load right now but it is not near that high. I will have to see if I can get a shot tomorrow when the lights are on full since it also supplies power to my lights, A Sicce SDC 3.0, 2 MP10's and also supplies power to a Wave Engine and 2 X10's. It is in the house on a control board out in the open of the room.

Will two Sicce SDC 7.0's draw max load from Kraken? When these pumps start up after a factory reset they start at 100% power, I believe. When both pumps are over 75%, Kraken shuts one down.

I do have a Reef Octo 250 INT skimmer with a Varios 4-S drawing power from Kraken as well as two Ecotech Versa base station dosers (4 dosing heads on each base). One base station runs AWC constant & the other does my dosing.

I went back to the brick on one Sicce pump & temp has dropped 10 degrees in 5 minutes. Im going to bed & I don't want Kraken shutting down one of my pumps overnight if it overheats.

Are those high temps a problem?

I was referring to my max current on the Kraken for my setup since the tank lighting was not on. I don't think it would be any where near the max on the Kraken.

Gotcha! I just see those Orange numbers & think something isn't right. I plugged one pump back to a brick last night and watched the temp come down. As soon as it hit 129.9 degrees, they turned green, so apparently Kraken & Hydros must think anything over 130 degrees is high & out of normal operating range, or the numbers wouldn't turn Orange. I wonder at what point they would turn Red?

I just want to keep things safe and would like to know if the numbers turning Orange over 130 degrees is an unsafe condition.

I will add when the temps were Orange & in the 145+ degree range, I put my hands all over the Kraken Meanwell power supply & the Kraken itself. The power supply was cool to the touch. My Kraken is mounted right next to a Launch. The Kraken was slightly warm. The Launch was completely cool but I could feel a slight amount of heat from Kraken. Nothing anywhere close to burning my hand or anything, it was just slightly warm.

Here is the max my system draws from my Kraken when the lights are the brightest. It s drawing 4.27 amps and is 114.3 degrees.

I got some very settling news from Hydros regarding the Kraken high (orange) pc board temp. I emailed Michael S with Hydros support asking if this is a dangerous situation running long term with the higher pc board temp and his reply was:

It is not Dangerous . The PC board temp can go up to 190 degrees without issue . I believe at 160 degrees it goes Red , but even then it's not an issue .

I've seen customers put these controllers in outside closed containers and they can get much higher temps than that . When that happens we do recommend using a fan or something for good ventilation.

This answer really put my mind at ease. I don't want to do anything unsafe or dangerous. So if your pc board temp runs a bit higher than normal like mine, there should be no issues.

I plan to post a full how-to with photos to make the adapter for the Sicce SDC 7.0 pump when I get time (really busy last few days). I believe it should work for the 9.0 pump as well, but I cannot verify that as I don;t have one.
