Manually cleaning sand with a AWC system

Any recommendations for cleaning sand with an AWC system? I'm planning to use a syphon (like this) to clean the sand, which will drain the tank.

I was thinking I would do the syphon manually, then run the AWC fill routine to replenish salt water to the high water sensor. I'm not sure how to actually do that though.

You would have to manually override the ATO art to off and manually override the fill pump to on and put it back in auto when the full sensor is set. I have not tried it but it will probably stop if you put it in auto before the full sensor is met.

I'll give that a shot. I was also thinking that I could just clean the sand during the scheduled AWC phase.
