You can add outputs that will turn on at certain alert levels using the output type alert. For leaks that would be the red level. You could use a wifi strip to do than but when I had a red alert on mine it woke us up with the alarm sound from the controllers themselves since audio was check on red alert. They are not even in the same room but it is not far away though. With smart home becoming more popular, it would seem some type of integration is needed. With the redundancy that Hydros has to switch the master if a node fails, MQTT makes the most sense. Murphy’s law says bad things happen at the worst time and the majority of tank leaks happen when people are in bed, so wouldn’t it be nice to be able to turn on the lights to wake you up if a leak sensor is detecting fluid? Sound the siren for the house if the PH goes above the set point? These and many other use cases can prove the need for an integration point for our tanks to be incorporated into our smart homes. So add my vote in for MQTT.
But an outlet will not be able to control a room light. MQTT paired with a smart home would allow for this and many other alerting possibilities beyond WiFi outlets. You can add outputs that will turn on at certain alert levels using the output type alert. No, but you can plug a lamp into it and it will turn that on. I have the alert output type controlling lights that are around the TV where we are most of the time. The Hydros was already controlling them but they were either all on or all off. They are some ornament type lights that my wife has. So what I did if there is an alert only specific lights will be on depending on the alert level. I posted photos of the lights and screenshots of the settings for making them work the way I wanted them to in my build thread on Reef Central. The post are on page # 10 and start at post 181. Hopefully you can use something similar at least for now. Here is a link Hex Tank BuildBut an outlet will not be able to control a room light.
