Hi all I have a non technical question , I was watching the new ph workshop and Carlos said his tanks ph is lower at night and higher during the day , and for some reason my tank is the opposite lower during the day and higher at nite but always low peak and high peak just about the same. I don’t chase numbers just found it odd. If anyone has experience this would like to know if this is ok

Also just some insight on my tank, I do dose kalk at 30ml a hour, main led lights go on about 9:00 am and slowly get brighter at about 11:30 my t5s kick in and go off about 7:00 and leds gradually get dimmer and goes into moon light mode. I also have a refugium that goes on about 8:00pm and goes off at 6:00am. And I also dose vodka and vinegar at 6ml a night at 1mil every two hours.

I would say this is outside the norm, but most likely made possible for 2 reasons.

1. You're dosing Kalk around the clock
2. You're refugium is also counteracting the "Normal" PH drop at night.

Simple way to test this theory would be to not run the refugium at night. See what impact it has .

My tank is higher in the late afternoon and lowest before the lights come on. I also run a refugium light at night. I only dose All For Reef every 4hrs in the 24hr period. It could be something you are dosing. Not sure what effect vodka would have on the pH reading.

My thought on the vodka and vinegar is it’s acidic so it brings ph down, lowest ph point around 8.15 around 9:00 in the morning, and 8.37 at about 9:30 pm

That sounds about normal. The lowest just before lights on and highest a little after lights off. There is just a little delay from high light and high pH. My lowest is usually 8am and highest at 7:30pm. My lights come on a 9:30am and off at 8pm. There is a 4hr ramp up and 4hr ramp down.

So u would say the opposite ph swing is somewhat normal?

If your pH is lowest in the AM and highest in the PM then your lighting is raising the pH which is normal. If the highest was in the AM before the lights come on and the lowest was in the pm at the end of the light period, that would be adnormal.
