Hello,

I'm a new member. I'll get to my question. First, a bit of background. I'm an experienced reef aquarium keeper (15 years ago haha). I had a custom 90 cube. (I designed and built). Long story short, during a move, a automobile accident destroyed everything (2007). Devastated, I didn't rebuild until now. One of the best accomplishments in the industry, I built Dr. Sanjay Joshi's 500g reef aquarium. (I know it was still running as of 2018).

Well, with hard times past. For financial reasons, I am starting my first tank again. I'm on week one, so far. It's just a fluval evo 13.5. Basic system for now. I just upgraded the return pump. I plan to make the entire system a Coralvue run system. My next purchase is an x2 kit and ato kit

My question is, (finally!! I know right!?). The fluval light included, can I set a program to change between the 2 light modes through the app? I know the life of the light is short, but, I need to save for upgrades. I know I have a year or more my tank will balance anyway.

Thank you so much!
Ron B.

Unfortunately, unless the light fixture has 0-10V input that allows you to control the channels individually, the only thing the HYDROS can do is turn the light ON/OFF by controller the power outlet the light is connected to.

Ok great! Thank you for the reply. I know I'll have a ton of questions once I get the controller. I can't believe how many ato option there are.

I'm going to buy a light upgrade for this nano. Leaning heavily towrd the maxspect jump 65w.

I just bought the x2 starter kit. Do I still nèed the maxspect controller for the light? Or does the hydros have what I need that the controller provides?

The only outputs the X2 has is the wifi strip and the drive ports. Most lighting still needs the controller that goes with the light. Some of those controllers have a 0-10v input for external control. You would have to have a Hydros with a 0-10v output to control it that way though. The only ones at this time with 0-10v outputs is the X4 and Wave Engine. The Wave engine would have to be in a collective with another Hydros controller to use the 0-10v outputs for lighting instead of pumps. I have DIY lighting and use the 0-10v outputs to control my lighting.

Do you have a thread showing your DIY lighting?

In about 3 or 4 months when I think I will need a light upgrade. I plan to take apart the stock light and see if I can separate the to light settings and add or figure out how to make them dimmable. I'm going to try and simulate a ramp up and down effect. If I can get this far, I'll try adding UV, red and green nodes to the board. That said I may upgrade to the x4 and use the x2 for my mad science experiment.

In the mean time, I ordered an led light strip in the blue spectrum so I can just have the whites on for a few hours a day. I wish I could use the hydros to dim the stock lights so I can make a better photo period timer profile.

I have a build thread on R2R, but the information on the lighting is spread out of the thread and it is 8 pages long. Go through it looking for post on lighting there are several in there. Here is a link Build Thread - Canopy and Stand Build for 42 Gallon Hex Tank .

What about scheduling to turn on and iff at certain times with the 12v
Use a output type that has the control by light schedules as a setting like fluorescent light output type.I think there is a LED output type also that has that. you can set at what percentage you want the output to come on. You need to goto schedules and setup at least one light schedule for this. You may also be able to use the schedule in a generic output. Set enable advanced settings to on if you want it to come on multiple times.
