I have the Control 4 (X4) and WE set up as a collective. I am using or attempting to use two Octo Pulse 2 Wave pumps and a Varios 2 has a reactor feed and a Varios 4 as a return pump. I set up all 4 pumps using the direct drive adapter cables. I am using terminator cables on the open command bus taps on both the WE and X4. The power for the X4 comes WE via the data/power cable. All lights on both the WE and X4 are solid blue.

I cannot get these pumps to run using the direct taps. I have switched adapter cables, tried on pump only, two pumps etc and I have verified the Varios pumps work using their native controls. When I set the schedule for these pumps I get on the status screen a "pump error". If I exit the "status screen" and renter the same screen, the pump status will tempraliy clear show a power bar showing the set pump speed, then quickly go back to the error message.

I'm at a loss to figure out how to fix this. I have refreshed the WE and X4 and I running firmware 190. I do have a trouble ticket but support has been less than stellar so I'm hoping someone on this forum can help point me in the right direction.

This sounds like an intricate problem. Please submit a ticket at CoralVue Support Portal, and one of the reps there will be able to help you. Unfortunately, we need more information which we cannot ask here as it is a public forum.

Carlos, I submitted trouble request (ticket number JHH-SQRKR-354 ) and received a automated response. As it was Saturday, I didn't expect a reply until Monday. At a little after 4:00 PM EST on Monday, I received a response from David at CoralVue asking when was a good time to call me. I responded that I was very flexible i.e. I'm retired so just pick a time. The next day, about 1:00 PM, I sent another email to David telling him I was waiting on him to tell me the time to call. At 3:00 PM est David responded by asking me to check three things. I quickly responded as I had done those things in my attempts to solve the problem. As of this writing I have received no response.

Later yesterday evening, I figured I would post on the forum for help. I'm not trying to be confrontational nor have I been, as I realize you are a small company and I have had positive support in the past. But I'm at a loss as I have attempted to follow the on line manual, the units seem to show no obvious failure symptoms.
I don't think it was an error on my part but I can't rule it out as this system is new to me. I have a fair amount invested in the Hydros system i.e. leak detector, ATO, etc. etc. and I want to succeed. Thanks rob

I am sorry about that. I checked the ticket, and it seems that Michael is already reaching out to you directly.

I’m having same problem just set up a VarioS 2 as a return pump. MP10 is working fine.

how did you resolve it?
I haven't been able to resolve it. I sent the first W/E back after spending hours on the phone with a tech rep. He couldn't either of my Varios pumps to work. I sent the first one back and Coralvue said they got it to work but it looked like a connection issue with the adapter cables "pins were bent". I didn't see any bent pins.

The next W/E they sent me did the same thing. I spent hours swapping cables, pumps etc. I got so tired of kneeling under the tank that I just put the Varios 2 in the sink. A friend who is a machinery control engineer stopped by and we went through every possible combination of pin connection to adapter cable and still no joy. The connections of this unit were fine.

I sent this one back with the adapter cables and one of my Varios 2 pumps and a tech rep just sent me an email saying "I was able to check out your WaveEngine and cannot figure out the issue, would you be okay with me sending it to our engineer so he can take a look? " Now I don't know if the rep hooked it up using my pump and actually ran it or what but I could not get this W/E to work beyond a second or 2 before it went to pump error and I have tried different power supplies, multiple adapter cables, different outlets etc.

Arghhhh!! I'm so frustrated that I'm ready to throw in the towel. Is your W/E the wifi unit? I'm assuming it is as both of my unit were WIFI and echo tech compatible but I didn't try my MP10s. I now wish I had. By the way, I couldn't get my Octo Pulse wave pumps to work without an error. good luck. Please submit a trouble ticket.

Yikes! Thanks for all that info. Yes, it’s the wifi version and the MP10 is working off of it fine. I’ll confirm the pump works with the Octo controls and submit a ticket and post any updates.

Thanks. I confirmed my three Varios Pumps (2 and 4) worked just fine on their original controllers. They were brand new but I had to rule that out before contacting CV. I didn't have the original controls for the Octo Pulse as I just bought the heads seeing how it was my goal to eliminate all the power supplies with the W/E.

Your pump and Wave Engine are currently in testing as I post this. We will get to the bottom of the issue as I have promised. We have a lot of folks working on this. I’ve brought in all kinds of help to get this resolved. No matter what we will get it figured out ! :) @Don

Cool! Actually, I did get it to work but I’m not 100% confident.
This is all new equipment. And the WaveEngine is not part of my collective yet as I do not have the data cable yet.

I ran the pump in my sink with the Octo controls and it ran fine. I then looked at the direct drive cable connection to the pump, the 3 pins and they did look a little wonky…so I messed with them a bit…and viola it worked. But, hence, my lack of confidence…

hooked it up to my tank sump and it’s running and will let it run and see what happens.

THY. I'm glad you got yours working. Did you try it on different drive ports? I initially thought it was possibly the female sides of the drive adapter cable i.e. they look a bit loose or too large for the pin. I also thought it might be a pin miswiring in the adapter cable but I sacrificed one of my adapter cables so I could test every possible pin/wiring connection but that didn't produce positive results but with yours working, maybe its back to the tightness of the adapter cable connections.

I'm not sure who is working on what at CV because I received a email this morning from CV stating "Hello Robert, Yes, I tested the pump in water. I was able to make the pump work on drive 3 but none of the others worked. I will check to see if I can send you a replacement so you are not waiting on the engineer to test and repair your WE." .

I replied with a copy of Don's message above so I'm hoping everyone is on the same page. I don't want a third W/E that doesn't work consistently. I've been dealing with this for nearly 2 months now. rob

I have not tried on any other ports. Used port 1 the whole time. I can experiment with others or do any other experiments you can think of as I am in the middle of a slow tank transition anyway.

Agree with staying on same page. Thanks for the info.

You might want to try the other three ports. If only to confirm they are working so you don't find out after the warranty period ends. In my case the 10V ports work just fine but none of my drive ports functioned on my first unit and ditto for the second. I tried the W/E has a stand alone and part of a collective with the control 4. I like the product and the concept but I just wish I could get mine working.

The Hunter, As I mentioned I sent off my second W/E and my Reef Octo Varios 2 to CV with the hope that I could get some resolution to my pump error messages: I received a reply from the support rep today. It is below:
--------------------
"Hi Robert,

Don has finished repairing your WE, this is what he said: "I had to make a minor firmware change to make the pump work properly. The motor characteristics were different from our standard Varios 2 model. I added this change to the current firmware release."

Don will be shipping your WE, Varios 2 and the 4 adapter cables back to you today. As far as your Octopulse pump that was also having issues, that pump may have also been changed and that is why it was not working, we won't know if the update Don did will fix your OctoPulse until you get the WE back and you can report to us. The changes that were made to the pumps were done by Reef Octopus, unfortunately, we have no control over the changes they make to their pumps, and can only adjust accordingly as we find that they have made a change, with that being said, this rarely happens.

I will send you the tracking info as soon as Don drops your controller and pump off to the mail carrier."
----------------------
I wish I had sent my Octo Pulse wave pumps to CV as well because I have to hope that they now work. I'll update after receipt. While I appreciate a resolution to the problem, I wish this had been checked thoroughly when I sent back the first unit for the same problem. I would have not wasted another month and numerous hours of my time trying to figure out why it didn't work has designed.

Hello Robert... Michael here.

I wish you would have sent in all the pumps also. The first unit you sent in " Wave Engine" we both thought was the issue. Then we continued to dissect the problem and went the way of pigtails. After that too didn't resolve the issue I asked if you could send everything in. I remember you didn't want to do that . Unfortunately we did not know that the manufacturer had made some changes to the pump that necessitated us making firmware changes. Frustration all around for everyone on this one. I do want to thank you for all your help. I appreciate you sacrificing time and energy with us. I told you I wouldn't give up until we had answers. We got them. :)

We did check the first unit you sent back thoroughly. The unit wasn't the issue, Its a pump issue. The manufacturer made a change and we didn't know that ....... yet. This is why I asked if you could send in your equipment. At that time we couldn't recreate the problem. The ONLY way we could is if we used you're equipment and pumps in the hope we could find out what was really going on. This equipment needed to be sent to our LAB to be tested and properly diagnosed. Our Engineer found the issue and made the corrections. This isn't something that we could do remotely. Again ... Thank you Robert for sticking with us , you've helped the entire community. :)

Hi Robert,

Your Wave Engine and pump should have arrived yesterday.

Don

Don, Yes I received it.
I had to wait today to get the W/E connected but I can't get past the "breathing purple" on the W/E. I.E I can't get it connected to my network and it doesn't show up on my CV App nor doe it allow me to add it. I have cycled the device using the magnet but still no change. I have this providing power to the Ctrl 4 and that is available and seen on my network. Is it possible this unit is still attached to you/CV eng. Please help.

Hi, I cleared it before I shipped it since it was now assigned to me. You will need to re add it like a new device using the PLUS at the top of the left menu.

Don, Thanks, I have gotten to the point where it has notified me that I need to update the firmware but I could use some help. The "installed or Running version" is shown as "192"while the App is asking me to download an install 190. I know you had to revise the firmware to run the version of Reef Octo pump that I own. Do go back to 190 ?

No, stay at 192. But if you have the current app on your phone it should be asking for 192.
