What’s the proper way to configure a Varios-4 as a return using Direct Drive? I was surprised that when I selected “Return” as the “Type” that the only outputs shown were the 0-10v.

What I have done is the following:
Type = Flow Pump
Model = Varios
Speed Range = 0-75
Output Device = Direct Pump 1

I then created a Schedule with:
Pattern = Constant Speed
Speed = 100%

…and left the other settings alone.

This seemed a little clunky for a return pump, so I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing.

That may have been the only outputs available for that type of output. I use the return output with a regular AC style pump that is plugged into a wifi strip outlet. Since I don't use a schedule with a return pump I cannot tell you exactly how your setup will run. If it does it will be at 75% since the schedule has 100% and the max set for the pump is 75%. I have not tried using the schedule without setting times and other settings.

Yea it looks right.
Also you selected direct pump 1 that is not 0-10 v so I am confused on that statement of only 0-10V.
In Patterns make sure you select the pump you created in outputs.

Danny's is right on the speed.

Yes, that is the correct way to do it. Remember, the WaveEngine is not designed to run pumps at one speed. It can, but it is overkill to create a schedule for something running the same 24/7; however, we understand the appeal of removing the power supply.

BeccaBits, I have a similar setup using the Varios 4 as a return pumps and a Varios 2 has the driver for a closed UV loop. I also setup my V4 and 2 the same way you did. Are yours functioning?
I ask because I cannot get the WE to run using the direct drive despite a replacement WE and power supply. I waiting for some replacement direct drive cables but after 3 weeks+ which has involved, ripping apart my control panel setup and a lot of time on the phone with CV, I'm about ready to throw in the towel and use the native controllers and power supplies. RobT,

I have the exact same setup and have no issues running the Varios-4 and Varios-2 off of the WaveEngine. Since I am only running two IceCap 2k Gyres of the WaveEngine, I figured why not lose the two power supplies and controllers.

Rural R, Thanks for your input. I hope to have replacement direct drive cables late Monday so I am hoping I just received a batch of defective cables as I and CV have tried about everything else over the past 3+weeks. To try another tack, I have even ordered another direct drive cable from another supplier as well as the -10 volt adapter cable. Unfortunately when BRS killed Marine Depot, I lost a reliable quick shipper who carried CV products i.e. I live about 3 hours away from MD. So ended up ordering from Premier Aquatics but I won't get them until Monday. Rob

Rural Reefer, or Becca bits: What version of the WE are you using? Mine is the WE with the wifi card and eco-tech compatible version.

Does the pump work with the original controller?
I have had bad cable before it does happen so it maybe the cable.
I have 2 WE and all three run a VaRios pump just fine. I do it so I have less power supplies and also one place to shut it all down.
Did you clean the pump recently? Has it been out of water for a bit?

Shred5, Are you using the WIFI Eco- Tech Version?

I have spent hours on the phone with Coral Vue Tech. The pumps are brand new and I have run all three (two Varios 2s and one Varios 4) on their native controllers. They work fine. As this is a new tank, they have yet to be run in saltwater. I have had a replacement WE (WIFI) and power supply sent to me. I have gone through now 6 cables, I have replaced the power cables, I have changed outlets, etc. Coral Vue Tech rep has set up and verified the setting by operating the WE from their end.
Yes, I understand the appeal of the direct drive WE i.e. elimination of PS etc. It is why I purchased the WE in the first place. I also have to Octo Pulse 2 Wave makers but again no joy.
