I have a X4/XP8/WaveEngine collective and use a Reef Octopus 150SSS skimmer. I was disappointed to find that although the WaveEngine can control a RO Varios 2 pump, the WaveEngine outputs are not listed as available to control the Varios 2 (which comes with the skimmer) when the Type is set to Protein Skimmer. I know I can use the 0-10v Output to the skimmer controller (which I am currently doing) but was REALLY hoping to get rid of the power block/controller to save space. Is this a software update or is there more to it that I don't understand?
Thanks for the great products!

So the built-in recipes sometimes don't give advanced configuration and control options. i.e. Flow Pumps in Protein Skimmers. They are an "easy button" serving the masses. Kind of similar to the 80-20 rule. If you fall into the ~20% that wants to do something different, you still can. The Wave Engine CAN drive and control your VarioS 2. You can get rid of the power brick and controller by purchasing a Reef Octo pigtail, connecting to the Wave Engine and configuring as a Flow Pump then associating a constant Flow Pattern schedule. Or schedules. The only caveat is neither the Flow Pump output nor Flow Pattern schedule permit you to select a skimmer sensor or leak sensor input. If you would like to use either or both of these, create a Generic virtual output (just an output configured as you normally would but for no Output Device selected) and make your schedule(s) Depend Off If Off on the virtual output. By default, the Flow Pump output icon will be different but you can edit the output and change it to be a protein skimmer so it is properly reflected. Not the Type but the icon which you access by editing the output, clicking on the pencil next to the name then scrolling to select the desired icon.

Oh, sorry, I have the pig-tail and the sensor (needs a new plug but came with the skimmer) but was "suggesting" a modification to the "easy button" to include the WaveEngine output so I can not only cut down on power bricks but also tiles on my app. 😉
As a programmer myself I wouldn't think it would be that much of a modification but then, I could be wrong. 😊

Yea, understand. I have submitted similar requests previously for calcium reactor and kalk where I use VarioS pumps. Would tend to agree it likely isn't terribly difficult but probably just enough out of the norm it is buried under a mountain a mountain of other requests from the masses.

Haven't submitted the skimmer request myself because mine has a VarioS 6 which isn't supported by Wave Engine.

I know this is an older thread, but I would love to run a CoralVue (Reef Octopus Regal 250SSS) skimmer directly off my WaveEngine 2.
