I do that also but not everyone has that ability or the tools to do it. You may be able to request a cable from them in a specific length and type if you contact them.

You can buy Aquabus cables at 1ft, 3ft, 6ft, 15ft, and 30ft. I may have made my own cables in the past. But, frankly, it is not worth my time if I could buy it. With the modular premise of this product, short command bus cables are a necessity. Having to make your own short cables detracts from otherwise very good packaging.

Are there good DIY instructions on how to shorten cables? I can't imagine it's that hard.

If you are using the CoralVue cables they have a different color wire for each pin. I don't remember which color is to which pin but you can find out easily. Just get some 5 pin GX12 connectors.
