Heaters on XP8 outlet

Hi all... I currently run an InkBird 306 with 2 of the BRS Titanium 300 watt heaters, plugged into an ADJ PC1000 power strip. Each of the heaters is rated at 2.5 amps, and I believe the InkBird is .8 amps. Each of the ADJ channels can supposedly handle 10 amps. Came home to a dead channel the heaters were on, I’m assuming it couldn't handle the on/off surges even though rated below its max. That said, is the XP8 designed for applications like heaters? If so, what is different about my current power strip and the XP8 that makes the XP8 able to handle things like this?

You may want to put each of them on a separate controller and outlet just in case there is an issue with one you don't loose both heaters. My 2 heaters are only 50 watts each so have never had an issue with them. The XP8 is rated up to 8 amps per outlet as long as total current is less that the rated 14 amps. So you can only have one output pulling 8 amps. Personally I would not push anything to the maximum rating. This is a screenshot of one of my heater outputs while on.

do you know if/how the internals are different between a generic power strip and the XP8? Relays, resistors, (no clue what I’m talking about) etc…
 
I am not sure what generic power strip you are referring. The XP8 PC board is populated in Slidell, LA. I assume that is where it is assembled also. The relays that do the switching are rated for 8 amps so that is more that the 5 amps you posted. If it is really 5 amps for the current draw you should be ok.

I am not familiar with that power strip. There might be someone else that will see this post that may be familiar with that strip though. My tank is a 42 gallon tank and the most I have seen it draw is just over 2 amps at any one time. That includes all lighting and all pumps and heaters.You must have a larger tank.
 
It would be interesting to know what the dead channel on the ADJ was doing? Was it always on? Always off? Did the light go on and off? Did other channels fail as well? Was there any evidence of heating / melting?

The ADJ plug strip should have had not trouble at all with a 5-6 Amp load on an outlet. The fact that it did is either a design or manufacturing defect. The XP8 will be fine with a 6 amp load, but I would follow Danny's suggestion and split it up if feasible.

The channel that died was the one my heaters were on, that was the only one. The fuse did not trip, and the other channels were fine. Do not see any signs of melting but it happened in the morning and couple be internal. I actually am inclined to think it may be a manufacturing defect.
